Hey Guys-
While I realize that many of you have your eyes fixed at the light at the end of May, I would like to take a moment to talk to you about this campaign.
For years, you have dutifully served your county by voting for Student Member on the Board of Education, and I whole-heartedly applaud you on your successes. However, there is still so much we can do. And while I may not be able to deliver anything that may of benefit to you, I promise you one fundamental thing: When you come back 5, 15, 30, 50 years later for whatever reason, I will work hard to make this county a county that you are proud of.
Many times, we spend our days looking at the present and living in the day. But I hope you realize that this election is not just about education and schools, it's a statement about our generation - that we are choosing advocacy over passiveness, transparency over shrouded government, and a better school system over one locked in a bitter struggle between constituencies.
Now is not the time to grow apathetic and throw aside your votes for lack of of immediate benefits and freedoms. Now is the time to get active and truly make a difference in your school system before you all leave in pursuit of your dreams, hopes, and ambitions.
As you begin to pick out your prom dresses, take your final exams, and say your final goodbyes, I hope you keep this election in the back of your mind because it's so much more than a simple vote; it's a political statement about what this generation truly embodies - this generation that has continued to triumph over the negative stereotypes and underestimations that have been set by our adult counterparts. This must be our direction as a student body and as a generation and I hope that this election will allow you to do just that.
Thank you, and goodnight.
